Sitting a few feet from Maple Lake, this former military hut has been transformed into a cozy, quirky, peaceful home, with breathtaking views of the lake and wildlife. Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck entertained by visiting Geese, Swans, Ducks and Blue Herons. In summer there is fishing, swimming, kayaking and in winter ice skating, skiing, tubing, ice-fishing and snowmobiling. Kick back and soak up the slow pace of lake living on roughly one acre of lakefront property at your disposal.
Our retired 620 square foot military Quonset Hut, with beautiful views of the water and all-around landscapes, has been designed to encourage you to relax and unwind. We offer a kitchen with more than the basic needs, a stove and oven with the pots, pans and what-nots needed to prepare meals which you can enjoy in the open concept dining area. The entryway has a bench to sit and remove your shoes and hooks to hang your coats.
The queen bed is in a small bedroom that does not have a door but does have blackout curtains to close off the space to allow you to take daytime naps. We provide an electric blanket so you can be as warm as you wish.
Next is a sitting area with two oversized, comfortable, down-filled reading chairs from which you can gaze out the window at the lake, read or take a nap.
The living room offers a comfortable sectional couch to sit and watch the lake through the windows or watch a movie on a 55" 4K smart HDTV with Netflix. We have a clothes closet, washer & dryer and a dedicated workstation with USB charging ports. We provide internet access with 500mbps high-speed WIFI suitable for “ work from home” guests.
The bathroom has all the necessities, such as towels, hair care and body supplies and a few “just in case you forgot something” items, but know that the shower is a small single (stall) shower, which you would typically find in a cabin or cottage. But, the heated towel rack! That one little touch has had rave reviews from our guests. Step out of the shower, dry off with a warm towel which, according to the buzz, is like being pampered in a spa.
The large grassy yard has majestic maple trees, a gazebo, fishing deck, boat dock, and 240 feet of shoreline. The property is located in a quiet neighborhood with beautiful surroundings but is centrally placed so you can be in the bustle of big city life in short order. We are just 20 mins from Kalamazoo, 20 mins from Portage, 40 min to Lake Michigan, 2 hrs to Chicago, 2.5 hrs to Detroit, and in just 2.5 hrs you can be on Canadian soil, our neighbors to the North.
Maple Lake is an all-sports lake that is 172 acres in size with a maximum depth of around 15 feet. There is a public boat launch at nearby Sunset Park, a short 10 mins stroll away. Fishing, kayaking, canoeing, pedal boats, sailing, jet skiing and tubing can all be enjoyed on the lake. While fishing on Maple Lake you may catch perch, bluegill, catfish, bass, northern pike, walleye or carp. In summer we provide complementary kayaks free for you to use, after signing our mandatory rental waiver. Kayaks are also available for rent from Paw Paw Kayak Rentals, launching from Sunset Park. The Quonset Hut is just a short swim, kayak or walk over to Maple Isle. Maple Isle is a public park with restrooms, BBQ stands, swing sets, and jungle gyms for the kids. Our Guide Book offers more suggestions for what you can do in Paw Paw and surrounding towns. Come be our guest and have fun exploring!
